Gladys Burns

Gladys Sides Burns, age 92, of Wingate, passed away on March 20, 2017 surrounded by family. She was born in Burke County, daughter of the late Robert O. and Elizabeth Arney Sides. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.V. Burns; her daughter, Lena Mull; her three sisters, Mable Putnam, Pearl Hallyburton, and Lois Morgan and her brothers, Carl Sides, Robert Sides and Ben Sides.

Gladys is survived by her daughter Brenda Chapman of Murrells Inlet, SC; her son Alan Burns of Monroe; her grandchildren, Kimberly Gagnon, Kristan Jenkins, Brian Mull, Joseph Burns, Savannah Burns, and Aiden Burns; four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, March 22, 2017 from 6:30PM to 8:00PM at McEwen Funeral Home. Services to celebrate the life of Gladys will be Thursday, March 23, 2017 beginning at 11:00AM at Wingate Baptist Church, with interment following at 3:00pm in Burke Memorial Park in Morganton, NC, traffic permitting.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Wingate Baptist Church or Hospice of Union County.
