Gladys was born on September 12, 1942 in Dillon, SC to her parents, Letha Clyde Williams Johnson and Woodrow Johnson. She met the love of her life, Cyrus Franklin Hunter, and they married on March 18, 1963. Gladys and Frank had a once in a lifetime love and it was obvious to everyone who knew them. Gladys was known to many as “Mama Gladys” or “Mama Hunter.” She had a generous spirit and always shared what she had with others. She loved baking, and would often gift those who were blessed to know her with some of her famous brownies or pound cake.
She is survived by her sister, Maxine Herring, of Dillon, SC and her four children and their spouses: Bridgette and Barry Robinson of Monroe, NC, Lisa and Bill Leslie of Concord, NC, Lee and Kim Hunter of Monroe, NC, and Billie Joe and Jeff Kirchinger of Waxhaw, NC. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and their spouses: Kristen and Robert Tesar, Taylor Shelton, Bryanna and Levi Ayres, Rebecca Leslie, Rachel Leslie, Brenner Robinson, Stephanie Hunter, and Josh Hunter. She has one great grandchild, Montgomery Brooke Ayres, on the way. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank, her brothers Dennis “Buddy” Johnson and David Johnson, her parents, and a set of twin children.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all who have prayed for and loved Gladys throughout the years. A special thanks goes to Dr. Shekhar Patil and his nurse, Kati Forconi, for going above and beyond for Gladys.
