

Jim was born June 14th, 1945 in Union County to the late Bickett and Joe P. McCollum, Sr. He graduated from Forest Hills High School in 1963, and “Chub” assisted in the coordination of the annual class reunion. He served as an enlisted airmen in the United States Air Force from 1963-1967. He obtained the rank of Sergeant, and served honorably. He was a family man; always spending time with his grandchildren, Dorian and Lily. Whether out fishing, running in the yard, or playing in the sandbox, he always enjoyed time with them. He also loved a simple get-together or having family over for meals and conversations. He was a very loving father, grandfather, and friend to all. He never knew a stranger. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Monroe, NC.
Jim is survived by his son, Michael McCollum and daughter in law, Gretchen McCollum of Marshville, NC; his son, Doug McCollum and daughter in law, Lisa McCollum of Monroe, NC; his son, AJ McCollum of Cary, NC; grandson, Dorian McCollum and granddaughter, Lily McCollum. He is also survived by his sister in law, Nola McCollum and nephew, John McCollum of Union County, NC.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 10:30 am until 11:00 am at First Baptist Monroe, located at 109 Morrow Avenue, Monroe, NC. A service to celebrate his life will be held following the visitation at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
