John Wayne "Big John" Benton, Sr., age 66, of Monroe, passed away on September 10, 2016 at home. He was born in Union County on June 25, 1950, son of the late Roy and Beulah Benton. Big John is survived by his son, John Wayne "Lil John" Benton, Jr. (Caroline); his daughter, Jessica Caroline Benton Helms (David); five grandchildren, Madison, Isabel, Gabriel, Dawson and James Colby; five brothers, Dennis, Doug, Jack, Roy Jr. and Ray Benton and his three sisters, Carolyn, Pam and Vicky. A memorial service for Mr. Benton will be held 11:00am Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Benton Heights Baptist Church. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is serving Mr. Benton's family.
