

Joseph Steele Larrimore, age 90, of Wingate, passed peacefully to the sound of Amazing Grace. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edith Bivens Larrimore; five children, Phillip Larrimore, Paul Larrimore, Peter (Carol) Larrimore, Evie Jo Larrimore and Donna Larrimore Dodson; seven grandchildren, Dana Dodson Teahan (Patrick), Devon Dodson Gurley (Brian), Douglas Dodson (Kristy), Christin Larrimore Little (Kenovtis), C. Joseph Larrimore, Jennifer Larrimore and Peter Michael Larrimore; and seven adored great-grandchildren.
Joe was the pastor of five churches including First Baptist Church Monroe, First Baptist Church New Bern and First Baptist Church Tarboro. He was a WWII Veteran, a civic leader who fought for justice and racial equality, a teacher of theology and a twenty five year Hospice volunteer.
He was a great lover of human kind with a deep devotion to music, art and literature and he embodied the love of Christ.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 12:00pm until 1:00pm at Wingate Baptist Church, 109 W. Elm Street, Wingate, NC, with a memorial service to follow starting at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Union County or Mecklenburg County. McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the Larrimore family.
