

Born in Union County, North Carolina on September 6, 1935, Joyce, along with her family, owned and operated the Mountain View Truck Stop, Motel, and Grocery Store for approximately thirty years, serving the community. She was a hard worker and especially loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Marshville, North Carolina and attended regularly until she became sick. She was known at the church for her dried fried apple pies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Connie Helms; husband, Thomas Carol Funderburk; daughter, Reba F. Stegall; and sisters, Shirley Forbis and Ramelle Harrington. She is survived by her son, David Funderburk; grandchildren, Angela Hale and Stephanie Stegall; great-grandchildren, Thomas Stegall, Keelee Gervacio, and Raymond Stegall; nephews, Jimmy Forbis, Ricky Forbis, and Terry Harrington; and son-in-law, Richard Stegall.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 10:00 am at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 2317 Landsford Road, Marshville, North Carolina.
