She was born April 27, 1933 to the late Hall and Vera Belk Carter.
Kathleen graduated from Mineral Springs High School. She was a poultry grower for both Central Soya and Cuddy Farms. She and her husband Jack were faithful members of Mineral Springs Methodist Church. Both were very active in the church and projects within the church. Kathleen’s most enjoyable moments were spent either in her vegetable garden, canning and freezing all she raised, and her wonderful flower gardens. One of her greatest pleasures was to make flower arrangements for the church and then give them a shut-in to enjoy. Her favorite saying was, “The Lord gave them to me and I want others to enjoy them too!” She also was a very talented quilter and a member of the “Sew Blessed” quilting group at MSMC. Along with the beautiful quilts she made she was also involved with the project, “My Brother’s Keeper” which involved making sleeping bags for the homeless. Above all else she was a servant for her Lord, a wonderful wife, mother to all her family, and a special friend to many folks.
In addition to her parents, Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Jack Lloyd Horton; daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Ed Morrow; daughter, Margaret “Libby” Starnes; brother, J.D. Carter; and sisters, Margaret Sikes, Inez Phillips, and Edna Bunn Carroll.
