Ricardo was born August 22, 1945 in Lanus, a suburb of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was one of four children. He lived an enjoyable childhood, spending time with friends and family, playing the nation’s beloved sport, soccer, and served his country as a late teenager. He worked as a jeweler with his brother in his early days after school and service. He met his love, Susana Hiyano (nee), in Argentina, where they married in 1968. Later that year, they took a chance, and in hopes of a better life for the family they were about to raise, moved to America. They landed in Brooklyn, New York, where they began to work and build lifelong friendships. Ricardo worked as a diamond setter and jeweler in New York’s diamond district. Ricardo and Susana had three boys born 10 years apart: Steve, Patrick and Richard. The family moved to Long Island in 1983 and resided in the town of Syosset, for the next 30 years. Ricardo was a great provider for his family, a great spouse to Susana, and a great father, grandfather, uncle and godfather. He coached sports teams, made friends at every phase of his life, and always brought a smile to those he encountered. He loved life and worked hard to provide for a growing family in a new country. He was beloved by his friends for his morals, values, and overall joy of life. His unique and uncanny knack to make people laugh will be among his most lasting impressions left on this world and all those he touched. He will be greatly missed, and his legacy will continue to live on through his loving family.
Ricardo is preceded in death by his parents, Inocencio and Dominga Pontillo; brothers, Osvaldo and Eduardo; and sister, Nelly. He is survived by his loving wife, Susana; children, Steve (Kim), Patrick, and Richard (Foli); and grandchildren, Kaiyo and Layla.
