Bob, born on February 12, 1938, was the son of Nick and Violet Revesz. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Bob was a graduate of Penn High School in Pittsburgh where he met his future wife, Elaine Hursh. They married in 1960 in Jeannette, PA and later welcomed a son, Kevin. Bob continued his education at Western Michigan University and graduated with a degree in Chemistry. He worked for LECO Corporation before moving to NC to work as a Research Chemist at Teledyne Allvac Corporation of Monroe. He later joined CEM Corporation in Matthews, NC, where he worked as a Research Chemist. Bob received many patents in microwave instrumentation during his career before retiring from CEM in 2008.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his son Kevin, taking daily walks and hikes on outdoor trails with his son’s Labradors and his dog Midnight. While hiking, he searched for Indian arrowheads and always enjoyed captaining his pontoon boat. He loved all things outdoors and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life sharing long meals or deep conversations with his beloved son Kevin. Bob enjoyed discussing food with his daughter-in-law Thelma, all her cooking, and the special love and care she gave him. Bob also enjoyed shag dancing and was a member of the Monroe Shag Club. When he wasn’t at home or Lake Tillery, you could find him in Salisbury or Davidson with his grandchildren or attending SOS in Myrtle Beach. Midnight was never too far away from Bob and will miss his dad terribly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Violet; his wife, Elaine; and several special animals that he loved. He is survived by his son, Kevin and wife Thelma of Monroe; and two bonus daughters, Jamie Yoch and husband Doug of Davidson and Holly Kesler of Chapel Hill. He has one brother, Duane Reeves of Vacaville, CA; a sister, Edith Osterholm of Pittsburgh, PA; and numerous cousins.
Five grandchildren are heartbroken to say goodbye to their beloved “Papa Bob”: Olivia, Presley, Sydney, Landyn, and Anderson will never forget their time at “Papa Bob’s Lake House”, trips to the beach, shag dance parties in the kitchen, birthday parties, playing Kick the Can and all the fun things they did together. They will miss all the laughs and love and will forever hold all the special memories in their hearts.
Bob’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9th, 2024 at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street in Monroe, NC. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm, followed by a service in the chapel at 2:00 pm. A graveside service will be held immediately following the service at Lakeland Cemetery. Those wishing to join the family in a reception at McEwen after the graveside service are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Union County, NC Animal Shelter, a place that meant a lot to Bob.
