Billy Owens, age 92, of Montgomery Alabama, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2nd 2026, surrounded by family.
Billy was born on January 3rd, 1934, in Webb, Alabama, to Gussie McCraney Owens and George B. Owens.
After attending school in Ashford, Alabama, he began his career in the optical industry in Dothan, Alabama, working with Dr. G.W. Blakely. In 1954, Billy moved to Montgomery, where he worked for American Optical and Ellis Optical, before going to work for Prescription Eyewear in 1957. In 1968, Billy founded Owens Optical, which he proudly owned and operated until 1998. He was widely respected for his exceptional optical skills and knowledge.
A faithful servant of Jehovah, Billy served for many years as an elder in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Montgomery’s North Congregation. His spiritual devotion, gentle leadership, and concern for others were evident to all who knew him.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of more than 60 years, Ruby Annette Deese Owens; his brothers, Pete Owens, George Owens, Millard Owens, Floyd Owens, and Wallace Owens; and his sister, Hellon Owens Dawkins.
He is survived by his sisters, Gloria Owens Peters and June Owens Holland; his children Anthony Owens, Pam Owens McCurdy (Billy), and Leah Owens Loehr; his grandchildren, Amsie Owens (Stacey), Courtney Owens Gallion (Brian), Will McCurdy (Hannah), Mary Owens McCurdy, Savannah Loehr, and Madison Loehr; his great-grandchildren, Jackson Owens, Ty Gallion, Rhett McCurdy, and Baylor McCurdy; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A devoted father, husband, brother, and friend, Billy will be fondly remembered for his humility, kindness, and unwavering care for others. His life will leave a lasting legacy of faith, service, and love.
Public visitation will be held at 1:00pm Friday, February 6th 2026, at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home in Montgomery, Alabama. Services, officiated by Brother Walter Wallace, will be held at 2:00pm at Heritage.
Pallbearers will be Will McCurdy, Amsie Owens, Jack Owens, Timothy Owens, Zeb Owens, and Rusty Parker.
Honorary Pallbearers are Wilburn Mitchell, Wayne Smith, and Randall Shell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, or Traditions Hospice of Selma.
The family would also like to extend a special thanks to caregivers Ruby Bennett and Gloria Means, the Orchard Rehabilitation Center, and Traditions Hospice for the excellent care given to our loved one.
