
Wilson, Lt Col Burke Lester, USAF, Ret , peacefully left this life & entered into God’s presence on August 6, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and a short battle with Leukemia. A resident of Montgomery, AL since 1974, he is survived by his loving wife of 58-years, Phyllis Atkins Wilson, son, Brigadier General B. Edwin (Lisa) Wilson, USAF, daughter, Jessica (Bob) Wilson Belcher & son Captain Timothy Stewart-Clive Wilson, USAF. Surviving grandchildren include: Burke Everett Wilson & Jordan Elyse Wilson (Annapolis, MD) & Abigayle Elyce Belcher (Montgomery, AL). Education includes: bachelor’s degree from U of MD & an MS degree from George Washington Univ. While at MD, he was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. He anchored the record-breaking mile relay team at the Penn Relays in 1955. Colonel Wilson was a 23-year Air Force combat veteran, serving as a command navigator on various aircraft, including the C-119 Gunship in Vietnam. He was an avid runner and cyclist who competed three times in the National Senior Olympics. He was a past president of the Central Alabama Model A Club. He was an active parent & served as volunteer track coach & trainer for the Saint James Trojans. Visitation will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home from 5-7pm, Monday, August 12th. A Celebration of Life will be held at his home church, Frazer UMC, at 1 pm, August 13th, with visitation at noon.
