

Clifford Lanier Branch, 81, died Tuesday, November 25, 2025. A visitation will be held at 11:00 am December 4, 2025 with a memorial service to follow at noon. Both will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Lucas Tribble will officiate. A private graveside will be held at a later date. Lanier was born April 1, 1944 to Mary Seibels Lanier Branch and William Thomas Branch. He played football and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, which was named after his great great uncle Sidney Lanier. Playing half back, Lanier’s running and pass receptions contributed to a State championship by the Poets. He graduated from the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama School of Law. Lanier was president of his fraternity, the Mother Mu chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He served as Captain in the United States Army stationed in South Korea. Lanier went on to serve this community’s legal needs tremendously well for over 50 years, most of which at his real estate closing law firm, Lanier Branch, P.C. His was a charismatic personality with great humor. He was a challenging tennis opponent and an avid golfer. He loved art and history and collecting both. Lanier was also a self taught architect; although, various builders in the area may disagree. He broke ground on his final and most beautiful home at 80 years old.
Lanier is survived by his devoted wife, Pamela Slocumb Branch, children, Kristen Branch Hurst (James Brian Hurst) and Clifford Lanier Branch, Jr. (Kimberly Alexander Branch), grandchildren, McRae Alexandra Hurst and Blake Lawson Branch, and brothers, Dr. William Thomas Branch, Jr. (Carolyn Jenkins Branch) of Atlanta and Charles Edward Branch. A special thank you to his “Team Lanier” members Mikevia Foster, Barbara Ware and Nedra Allen, all of whom challenged him and ensured that he laughed all the way to the end. Thank you for the last three months of peace and tranquility.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Montgomery Humane Society.
