Roger led a life full of love and kindness. He was a devoted husband and father, as well as a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Montgomery, Alabama. Roger deeply loved his family, Auburn football, and thoroughly enjoyed planning family vacations. When Roger was not working or spending time with his family, you could find him tending his vegetable garden or exercising. He was constantly on the move, preferring outdoors to
indoors. Roger was known for his humble soul, eagerness to help others, and gentle disposition in life. He had a calming demeanor that everyone gravitated towards.
He had a drive to be a good provider for his family and a strong work ethic. Upon enrolling in college, he initially pursued a degree in physical education. After researching future career paths and annual income, he changed his major to finance. Roger received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southern and later achieved a master's degree from Troy University. With all his business knowledge, Roger worked as a GS15 for the United States Air Force for over 30 years. Upon retirement, he returned to the workforce within two weeks, and he was still currently employed with MACALOGIC.
Roger is survived by his children, son, Danny Herndon, Jr, daughter, Angela Herndon, granddog, Millie Herndon, brother, James Herndon, and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife, Diane Herndon, mother, Rosella Herndon, and father, Randolph Herndon.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8570 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL 36117.
In lieu of flowers, the Herndon family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Association or the Montgomery Humane Society.
