Don was a man who was passionate about his family, his hobbies, and his career.
Don always put his family over everyone and everything. He was a loving husband of 41 years and a consistently doting father. He showed his daughters what love should be. He was gentle and kind, having never spanked or raised his voice. Later in life, he enjoyed helping take care of his wife, Debbie, during her struggle with Ovarian Cancer and later Leukemia, even when his own health was failing. He and Debbie fought long and hard, together. He was steadfast with his caregiving all the way to the end when she passed away in June 2024.
In his spare time, he enjoyed shifting gears and hitting the water in his bass boat to fish. Don was a talented fly angler and enjoyed fishing with his buddies. He allowed his daughters to tag along often on the boat, even when their talking scared away the fish, and later in life, his sons-in-law as well. There were hundreds of fishing stories to be told.
Don was just as passionate about another hobby, his music. He was a gifted musician, and his talent was evident in his classical guitar playing and the ease of writing music. Don was happiest when playing music with his friends and recording music in his home studio.
Don loved real estate. Connecting people with their dreams and wishes was another way he could show people he cared and was willing to serve.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Lynn “Debbie” Dorman Odom and his father, Gordon Ellis “Don” Odom.
He is survived by five daughters, Shannon Elisabeth Fisher, Candice Lauren Odom, Michele Marie McCauley, Deborah Lyndsey Fowler, Patricia Lynn Odom Hayes: his mother, Patricia Gunter Odom, his 9 grandchildren, and brother, Ronald Stephen Odom.
The family will visit with friends from 11:00 until 1:00 PM on January 23, 2025, at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home 10505 Atlanta Highway Montgomery, AL. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM with David “Dave” Odom, his nephew, officiating. The Internment will take place in the Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Mike Mills, Ricky Mills, Ronny Bush, Chad Fowler, Travis Hayes, and Ron Odom.
