Doris Jean Ford went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 22, 2024. She was born on November 1, 1934, in Rainelle, WV, and grew up in Rupert, WV. She was predeceased by two sisters, Peggy Hunter and Barbara James. She is survived by her loving husband of 60+ years, Tom, and three children: Sharon (Bruce) Strickler, Ron (Julie) Ford, and Chris (Melanie) Ford. She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Doris worked for Civil Service for 31 years and after retiring, she was very active in her church going on many trips for senior adults. She traveled to the Holy Land twice as well as mission trips to Ecuador and Mexico. She was also involved in volunteering and attended Bible Studies up until the week she passed.
She was an avid reader, often reading 2-3 books a week and she loved the many pets she owned over the years. Doris was a beautiful lady and while she didn't do public speaking, she carried on wonderful conversations not only with friends but with people she just met. Throughout her life she was friends of all races, Black, White, Asian, and Hispanic. She also maintained a nearly 60-year relationship with a Slovenian woman who helped care for her family while living in Germany.
Doris remembered birthdays and was a passionate card sender. One of her favorite Bible passages was Ecclesiastes 3: 1-7 which says, "There is a time for everything." But Proverbs 31:28 expresses how her family felt about her; "Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also, and praises her." Many friends throughout her life felt the same way.
The Ford family happily welcomes any flower arrangements to be sent, however, in lieu of flowers, would appreciate any donations to be made out to the Montgomery Humane Society.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Mrs. Ford on October 4, 2024, at 1:30 PM at Frazer Church in Montgomery, Alabama.
