Gail Smith Ball, born April 22, 1940, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Gail lived a life marked by resilience, creativity, and deep connection to the people she loved.
Gail grew up in Bessemer, Alabama, and later studied Accounting at Howard University. In 1974, she and her family moved to Montgomery, Alabama. Montgomery became home for the next five decades. Pursuing her love for the arts, Gail earned a Fine Arts degree from Auburn University at Montgomery, where she went on to work as the Coordinator of International Programs for thirteen years before retiring.
Following her retirement from AUM, Gail turned her considerable talents toward the real estate world. She earned multiple professional designations, including CRS, GRI, ABR, and CRB, and eventually became the Co-Broker at The Goodson Group. Gail served there alongside her partner, Bo Goodson, for more than twenty years, establishing a reputation built on integrity, knowledge, and genuine care for her clients.
She was known for her strong work ethic, quick mind, ageless beauty, and spirited personality. Beyond her professional success, Gail found joy in painting, gardening, interior design, spiritual growth, and spending meaningful time with family and friends.
Gail was the beloved daughter of Myrline and Monroe Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jackie Posey, and her brother, Jimmy Smith.
She is survived by her partner, Bo; her daughters, Gaylene (Alan) and Michele (Jon); her grandchildren, Chris, Abby, Sara, and Jack; and her great-granddaughter, McLain. Gail is also survived by her brother-in-law, Guy Posey. Her family (including pets) - those by blood, by love, and by choice was her greatest joy, and her legacy lives on in each of them.
Visitation will be held in the East Sanctuary of Frazer Memorial on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m.
Gail will be remembered for her endless creativity, independent spirit, and the unwavering fortitude with which she approached life. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.
