

Hendrik Philip “Phil” Panhorst, 75, of Montgomery died February 28, 2017 following a sudden illness. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday 5-7 p.m. and an hour prior to services. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Jenny and Sloan Taylor of Jacksonville, AL; two grandsons, Grayson and Jenson Taylor; his siblings and their spouses, Kathy P. and Gilford Smith of Anderson, SC, Betsy P. and Johnny Walker of New Market, AL, and Michael and Betsy Panhorst of Auburn, AL; his former wife, Julia King of Mount Pleasant, SC; and several nieces and nephews. He retired from Regions Bank with more than 30 years of service. He was a faithful member of Capitol Heights United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Greater Montgomery Exchange Club, BASS Masters Club and Dixie Wildlife Club. He was a member of the Lee High School Class of 1960 and attended Auburn University. He served in the Alabama Air National Guard, was an avid fisherman and Auburn football fan, and travelled widely. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be remembered for his sense of humor, soft laugh and relaxed demeanor. He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Marie Aaron Panhorst; his parents, H. W. and Ruby Panhorst; and a niece, Karen Walker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Phil's honor to Capital Heights United Methodist Church.
