

Born on April 10, 1957, in Montgomery, Alabama, John was the son of James B. Tisdale and Louise Tisdale. He grew up in Montgomery, forging lasting friendships from grade school and through his connections with the University of Alabama community. John dedicated nearly four decades, from 1984 to 2023, to the transportation industry, earning the respect and camaraderie of all who had the pleasure of working with him.
John was renowned for his radiant positivity, which brightened the lives of those around him. An avid golfer and devoted Alabama Crimson Tide fan, he rarely missed a game. His enthusiasm for life and deep love for his family and friends shone through in everything he did.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James B. Tisdale and Louise Tisdale; his brother, Jimmy Tisdale; his father-in-law, Russell Gaddy; his mother-in-law, Pat Gaddy; his brothers-in-law, Russ Gaddy and Rodger Gaddy; and his sister-in-law, Wendy Gaddy.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Gaddy Tisdale; his sons, John Gibbs Tisdale, Jr., William James Tisdale (Kelly), Clayton Sullivan Tisdale (Caren), and Daniel Newton Tisdale (Sarah); his nine grandchildren, Jameson, Joseph, Ellowyn, Max, Audrey, Violet, Boone, Bolton, and Gideon; his brother, Clyde Tisdale (Linda); his sister, Elizabeth Williford (Jim); his sister-in-law, Melanie Tisdale; and his nieces and nephews, Shannon, Adam, Carter, Patrick, Madeline, and Alex.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home in Montgomery. Donations in honor of John may be made to your favorite humane society.
John’s relentless optimism and love for life will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
