Mrs Melton- I just wanted to let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.  The kindness and compassion that Mr. Melton displayed was evident after meeting him.  Quillen Rehab was saddened to hear of his passing.  He was a special man and the service that he brought to healthcare will be missed.

John walked into my office at JCMC one morning and noticed the Book of Jabez laying on my desk.  He instantly started telling me about his study of the book and how it had effected his life.  And after reading the book and further discussions with John, I realized that he truly believed in the prayer, 'Oh that Thou would bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast [territory], and that Thine hand might be with me, and that Thou would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!'.
John will be greatly missed....but I am truly blessed to have been given the chance to have been graced with his presence.

Dear Melton Family, I do not know you and you do not know me, except, after viewing his service today via delayed stream, I do feel like I know you and extend my heartfelt sympathy at your loss.  I came to Montgomery in 1998 as an interim administrator at Montgomery Regional Hospital, and on my second day there, I received a call from John inviting me to lunch.  He picked me up, yes, in his white Honda.  John's warm welcome and friendship and support until Baptist ultimately acquired the HCA facilities, is one of the nicest and most caring acts a fellow administrator ever showed me. Carol, I was grieved to learn of John's untimely death. I was pleased to have overlapped with John at JCMC and to have gotten to know him through some of the issues we worked on together. I recall when he first came and he cited the Jabez Prayer as a guide for his coming there. Carol and family, I can't tell you how much it saddened me to read of the passing of John. I loved both of you growing up and that never changed. John had a heart for the patient and for all those that came in contact with him.  He fought the good fight and ran the good race and will be missed. I remember John from my work at Mountain States Health Alliance and Johnson City Medical Center.  I was impressed and taken by John's love of his family.  His passion and compassion were truly special.  I remember his tears as he talked about his father, Clarence, and John's growing family.  He so loved life. I remember the first time I met  Mr.Melton(outside of JCMC)- we were each sitting at O'Charley's waiting on a table-I looked up and saw him and couldn't resist-at the time there were alot of signs around town that read"We need Wellmont"-(I have been an employee of JCMC for 30 years) I reached over and lightly touched his knee and said-"We need Wellmont"! He looked at me sooo funny,then I began to laugh and introduced myself-he thought it was funny-John Melton was a sweet heart-kind and talented-(love his art he graciously shared with us)and loved his family so much-We ran into John and Carol a few times in downtown Jonesborough after his illness-I am so very sorry to hear of his death and pray for those who love him as each heart begins to heal.   May you find comfort in knowing that you will see John's sweet smile again one day! He has been & will be deeply missed around MSHA. I had the distinct honor of working with Mr Melton in his early years at JCMC. We shared a passion for photography & had several talks about it. Ironically, I had surgery at JCMC on Wednesday when he left this world & as I was being rolled back & forth, I couldn't help but see several of John's pieces of work in the hallways! They were beautiful before, but even more precious now.
  I am so very thankful to have known Mr. Melton! I'm glad too, that I was able to attend his retirement party & witness that smile one last time! 
   May the Spirit of God give all of you peace & comfort today & in the days, weeks & months to come.

I'm so sorry to hear of John's passing.  I knew John in the Spring of our lives.  We played on the same baseball team as young teenagers, then shared the high school and college experience.  He was always such a good friend and a joy to be around.  I know he will be missed terribly.  As I read the wonderful tributes here, I truly regret not having been able to stay in touch through the years.

I will never forget the time he had to chase the bus down for me and Patty to come home when he decided he wanted to get us ice cream before we left. He will be missed. I will treasure the picture he took of the "Floral Display" in our front yard for my 40th birthday. John was such a special man who made everyone at Johnson City Medical Center feel appreciated.  While walking the halls, he would be talking to everyone, no matter if they were a physician or in housekeeping.  Everyone was equal to John. He was also quite the comedian.  He always had something funny to say.  I remember during my team member orientation, how he shared information about the hospital, but also shared his personal testimony and his relationship with Jesus Christ.  Such a blessing !  It was a pleasure getting to know him, Hope, Scotty, and Carol.  So glad he had some precious time with his family.  All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Carol and Family,

I am very saddened to learn of John's passing.  I consider it such a privilege to have worked with John on the Washington County Board for MSHA and in our Rotary Club.  He was a wonderful friend to me, but then he was a wonderful friend to everyone!  John truly found his calling as an outstanding hospital administrator as apart from the numbers, the data, and statistics, John always showed Christ's love and healing to patients and to all people he met.  His great legacy lives on here in Johnson City in his accomplishments, his postive, lasting impact for the hospital and its staff and future patients, and of course, his beautiful photography displayed to remind us constantly of God's creation all around us here in the East Tennessee region.

Please know we are praying for John and for you all as we share your grief until we all are reunited with John.  Thank you for sharing John with us as we all became his extended family and friends here in Johnson City.  We loved him dearly and are so very thankful for the life he lived and shared so well. John made a deep impression on hundreds, thousands of lives in his time in Johnson City.  He and Carol were a ray of sunlight to the Central Church of Christ.  We will miss our brother while we remain on earth, but have all confidence of seeing him on the other side.  Our prayers are going up for all of the family.
