

John Joseph Philip, age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, with his beloved wife by his side, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born on July 13, 1937, in Somerville, Massachusetts, John was the son of John and Maria Philip. He graduated from Somerville High School and went on to serve in the United States Air Force, where he was recognized for exceptional leadership and operational performance. He honorably served his country during the Vietnam War era, completing two tours in Okinawa, Japan assigned to missile facilities. John retired from the Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida, in 1976.
After earning his associate’s degree from Gulf Coast Community College, John spent much of his working life with the United States Postal Service. He took great pride in his work, reflecting his dependability and forming lasting friendships along the way. He eventually retired in 2005 to begin his next chapter of life, which he filled with travel, Cribbage tournaments, social clubs, and time well spent with those he loved.
John was known for his love of the Red Sox, Patriots, games and card playing, his overall enjoyment of celebrating life.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Sessions Philip; his daughter, Linda Rogers (Donnie); his son Russell Philip (Terresa); grandchildren Chris, Mason, and Sharon; great-grandsons Elijah and Joshua. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Courtney Tanis (Nick); grandsons Paul, Benjamin, and Jacob; Reagan Alexander (Kenny) and grandson Rider.
John was preceded in death by his sister, Caroline Corsetti, and his son, Charles Samuel Philip, and his beloved dog Daisy.
A viewing for family and friends will take place on Saturday, February 7th, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home & Cemetery, 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL 36117. The graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Bethlehem Cemetery, 13956 Butler Mill Road, Lapine, AL 36046.
