Larry Benjamin Pope

Larry Benjamin Pope, 76, passed away on March 1, 2026. Born May 21, 1949, Larry was cherished, hard-working, loyal, and devoted throughout his life. Larry will be remembered for the steady presence he was to those who knew and loved him.

Larry had a dedicated and hard-working career where he worked at Marshall Construction for 29 years. Prior to this, Larry worked at Central Bank where he was responsible for opening more branches. He also had his Commercial License. It was during this time he began his construction career, building a church as well as other places of business. He went on to proudly own his very own company in the 80's, Pope Construction Company. He built many homes in Bellwood and Woodmere of Montgomery, Alabama, playing a major role in kicking off the development of these beautiful neighborhoods. His construction grew beyond his hometown, touching even more lives outside of the United States. Larry traveled to Africa, Russia, El Salvador and the Marshall Islands building U.S. embassies.

A lover of the outdoors, Larry enjoyed time by the water fishing or in the woods hunting when he had the opportunity. He also had a passion for firearms, and as an avid gun collector he shared that hobby with his family. An extremely family centered man, Larry was a proud grandfather who adored his grandchildren and spent as much time with them as he could. He was also a friend to many, keeping bonds strong through regular phone calls.

Larry is preceded in death by his father, Ezra Benjamin Pope; mother, Eva Gilbert Pope; and his wife, Colleen Holloway Pope. He is survived by his children, Larry Benjamin Pope Jr. (Amanda) and Carolyn Denise Tharp (Jeff); stepchildren, Ashleigh Richard (Andrew) and Ryan Holloway (Heather); as well as his grandchildren, Larry Benjamin Pope III (Elizabeth) and Katherine Leigh Pope.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on March 5, 2026, at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL 36117.
