Highlight of his travels was seeing Christmas Eve Mass with Pope Benedict XVI and a Mass with Pope John Paul II. He was a devout Catholic through out his life whose religious convictions were rooted in his studies with the Jesuits Priests at St. Peters Prep School (graduated in 1955) and St. Peters College (graduated in 1960). He served in the U.S Army Reserves from 1963-1967.
He retired from the New Jersey Transportation Department. He was appointed in 1983 by President Reagan’s National Institute of Handicapped Research to the Washington, D.C. He received a consultation invitation by the State of Israel IDF, Department of Rehabilitation. In 1987 he received recognition by the U.S. Department of Education (NIDR) with invitation to serve as a peer reviewer. In 1987 Penn State University invited him as an instructor for the Pupil Transportation Course on the special needs of pupils with mobility impairment. Lou has served on the Board of NMEDA for three terms and was a member for 25 years.
