Mary Elizabeth Newmeyer

NEWMEYER, Mary Elizabeth went to be with the Lord on June 8th, 2016. Mary was born March 26, 1942 in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the daughter of Martin and Bessie Coyne. She was the beloved wife of Kenneth who she married on November 26, 1960. Mary was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother to Kevin, Brian and Lynne and grandmother to Ryan, Sean, Colin, Matt, Kate, John and Anna. Mary graduated from Auburn in June 1979 and began a long rewarding career with the Public Service Commission of Alabama until she retired in November 2008. During her career, she was a member of numerous committees on both the state and nation level. She received numerous awards from both. Mary was a long time member of St. Bede Catholic Church and was a member of the St. Ann’s Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother. She is survived by her husband, Ken, sons Kevin (Kathy), and Brian (Kristi) and daughter Lynne (Jeff) and all her grandchildren. Services will be handled by Alabama Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the funeral home. Her Funeral Mass will be on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. St. Bede Catholic Church. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Amedysis Hospice and their staff. They also wish to thank Answered Prayer personnel, especially Latarsha, Jennifer, Irene and Mary for the wonderful care they provided for Mary for over two plus years. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
