I met Mike several years ago through his wife Nancy who I work with. He sometimes joined Nancy when she met with a small group of coworkers monthly  at a restaurant after work. He immediately became an instant friend with his warm, kind, welcoming, and unselfish personality. He was talkative and never met a stranger.  We both were a part of the Auburn Tiger Football fan base and Mike always shared team merchandise he bought and collected with me and others. Mike is missed but will forever be remembered for the kind of person that represents the goodness that lives in all of us.  I am so thankful to God that I had the pleasure of knowing such a wonderful person.

﻿Yes, I was 17 days older than Mike and he would never let me forget it.  He would tease  me about being his senior....in fact, he loved to tease me about silly things I did in the past that he thought was funny. But he affectionally called me his "favorite sister-in-law" (except when he was with Susan! ) and would do the sweetest things.  I miss hearing him call me LaLa, being embarrassed by his teasing, getting his welcome hug without fail, and mostly his big, big heart.  Mike, you are missed and loved by us all!

I always looked toward you for approval and was excited to tell you of all my accomplishments. That excitement continued as I started my own family. I miss you more everyday and really wish you could be here with us. I know you have a good view. Until we meet again. What a Glorious Day that will be! I Love You! - Romans 8:28

Our sincere condolences to you and your family. Mike was one of a kind and he will truly be missed. He welcomed this Alabama fan into his home on many occasions and was always so kind and generous. As a little girl, I remember when I would stay over during the summer and I would spend time with you and nana. I remember we would go to Waffle House to eat for breakfast and then go to the movie theater. The last time I stayed over during the summer, we went to go see one of the transformer movies. I remember we would also ride our bikes through the neighborhood. I remember when you, dad, JD and I went to see the 2016 Iron bowl. I’m going to miss giving you a hard time about football, and watching movies with you.

I remember when we were at the beach this past summer.  We were collecting sea shells. Papa helped carry the buckets full of sea shells.  

Papa was always funny and he said that he will let me go bike riding the next time we saw each other.   

Papa tried to make me scare by telling me that there was bears outside the cabin.  Papa was always very funny.  
I love and miss my Papa.

I miss our early morning talks about sports, politics, and God.  I just hope I am half the father that you didn't have to be!

Dad,
I still can't believe you are gone.  If I knew that the last time I would see you was in June I would have squeezed you a little tighter.  I want to thank you for always making me feel welcomed.  I felt closer to you than my real dad.  You always had the time to talk to me.  I will never forget how excited you were to show me your new toys, Auburn decor or new kind of snack.  

You had a special way of finding the perfect gift for everyone.  I will never forget my first piece of jewelry I got from you.  You said everyone needs a real necklace.  My heart bursted because I felt like I was yours and I belonged.

Just the other day Abbi was playing with a yoyo and we sat down and talked about your love of yoyos.   She will never have the chance to learn from her special papa.

Memories from the Reuter family continued:

--“Don’t touch my truck, mister!”  How NOT to reason with a drunk man in the middle of the road after Thunder Over Louisville!  Mike, Corey, and Grandpa Langley were no match for this delusional man.  However, barefooted little Nancy and her wagging index finger did the trick!  All three men immediately and obediently retreated back to their trucks with their tails tucked!  You had to be there!  Susan Reuter and Adrienne Patterson

--One time when Mike and Nancy were visiting us in Louisville, Mike took one of our bikes on a bike ride.  He thought the golf course looked like a lovely place to ride… until the golfers started yelling and chasing him.  He came back, proud of the fact that he was so fast that no one could catch him. --Grandma and Grandpa Langley took us on a trip to Montgomery while our parents traveled out east.  We were about 3 and 6 years old.  The airlines lost our luggage for a few days.  We went swimming at Mike and Nancy’s neighbor’s house, but we didn’t have our bathing suits, so they took us to Walmart and bought us new swimsuits.  I remember thinking they were the coolest bathing suits ever!  Adrienne Patterson    

--I remember how kind and caring Mike was to Fred after Mike’s mother passed.  It was inspiring how sweet that relationship was.  Susan Reuter

--I used to kid Mike saying that Auburn football players made more money playing for Auburn than they did if they were drafted by the NFL.  That used to get him going!  Greg Reuter

--Mike always counted his blueberries to eat in his perfectly curated oatmeal every morning.  One day, I took a few of the blueberries to see if Mike would notice.  He didn’t!  Greg Reuter

We all came up with the same descriptive words for Mike:

--Thoughtful
--Playful 
--Caring

We miss Mike dearly!  Our family will never be the same without this very special man!  


We have so many beautiful memories with Mike over the 30 years he has been in our lives.  Our family sat down and reflected on the ones we all had, as well as the ones we individually had.  Here they are:  

--Mike always had a roll of Mentos for us every time we saw him.  He also had Drumsticks in the freezer to share with us!  Sweet memories!  Adrienne Patterson and Nate Reuter

--Mike would play with us… ride bicycles in the neighborhood, play ping pong in the garage, and play pool / watch movies in the Auburn room.  Adrienne Patterson and Nate Reuter

--Mike came to one of our summer swim meets and cheered us on.  That was so special!  Adrienne Patterson and Nate Reuter

--We spent so many special Thanksgivings and Christmases together over the years.  Adrienne Patterson and Nate Reuter

--I remember watching Mike do all the fancy moves and tricks with the yo-yo!  He was so good!  Adrienne Patterson

--Mike took me roller skating for the first time.  I felt clumsy, but he was a great teacher.  I remember watching him do some cool skating moves!  I was SO impressed!  Adrienne Patterson

--One year, Mike brought yo-yos for the kids (Adrienne and Nate were about 3 and 6 years old at the time).  The kids thought they were cool for about an hour… at least until the adults took over the yo-yos.  Mike gave Greg, Nancy, and Susan yo-yo lessons on all the moves… we practiced them for days, sometimes completely ignoring the kids in the process!  Nancy ended up suffering a long time afterwards with carpal tunnel from all the yo-yo-ing!  Greg and Susan Reuter

--After the epic ice skating snafu, Mike called Greg every week to check on him…. just for a few minutes each time, so as not to tire Greg out as he recuperated.  Greg and Susan Reuter

--Lanny bet me $1 that Mike would show up to a family gathering wearing an Auburn shirt.  I said he wouldn’t.  I lost $1 that day!  Greg Reuter



David and I really miss Mike. He was the biggest Auburn fan ever! To the early morning setting up the tailgate tents to taking them down right before going in the game, it was all such a great experience for us all and we always had a great time. Mike was a true friend who would have given you the shirt off his back. He was a very caring friend. We know he’s in heaven and that he’s watching the Auburn games with Coach Dye!  You will be truly missed my friend!

Papa, 
I miss you so much because you started teaching me chess so I can beat my Bubba and started to help me on stuff like having talks to help me through things and spending extra time with me. When we facetimed you when you were in the hospital I was there and you heard my voice and moved a little! When I heard the news that you were gone I was sad and happy-sad because you are not here anymore and I can't see you anymore but happy because you are in Heaven with God and Jesus! You are the best Papa I could ever imagine and I love you!

Mike, in the beginning I didn't, I couldn't appreciate just how precious your influence was on my life-that was out of pure immaturity and ignorance. But as I've matured, learned, and become a mother myself, I now see how important a father's love and guidance truly is. While you were not my biological father, it never mattered and I never was made to feel like a "step" child. Thank you for that unconditional love that I so desperately needed. I will forever be grateful to you for your quiet, gentle, yet, stern leadership throughout the majority of my life. You are so missed here but I know exactly where you are now-it is hard not to wish you were back with us (even if it is to annoy me! :-)!!) but one day we will all be together again!!!! Until that day.....

To my sweet, gentle husband-My Love,
It has been 12 weeks since your untimely death and I still can't believe you are gone. I keep praying this is just a horribly bad dream and I will wake up to see your sweet face again. I still watch for your truck to pull in the drive-way at the end of the work day.  This is so unfair!!!  Thank you for loving me so much and choosing me to be your wife.  I hope you know how much I love you.  We had a wonderful memory-filled 30years together and were so looking forward to your retirement and the chance to make more memories.  My life is empty without you by my side.  I knew I could always count on you to be my supporter or champion.  I miss hearing you call me "angel".   I am at peace knowing you are in the presence of our Heavenly Father and that you are young, healthy and without pain now.  I am confident that Mom and Dad were there to meet you at Heaven's Gate.  Who knows-maybe even Brandi, Snuggles, Muffee and LuLu were there too.  I look forward to the day we can be together again for all eternity.  Until that day comes, I will try to move forward and make you proud of me.  Just know that  no one can ever replace you and I will carry you in my heart forever.

Mike will be sorely missed. He was a great ambassador and exemplified the Auburn spirit. There is a hole in the Auburn family that will be hard to fill. 

Nancy,
I had a little talk with Mike.  He is doing wonderful and rejoicing in his new home.  We talked about a lot of things, especially his beloved Auburn Tigers and he reminded me once again how they had beat Alabama and their numerous awards for excellence.  
Mike was always extremely competitive.  He had a strong desire to be the best and he and I competed often in different ways---from simple card games to athletic challenges.  I always won the pool shooting games and he would destroy me in a game of ping pong.  He was an outstanding speed skater and I would not even consider matching up with him on that front.  We talked a lot about his planned retirement and what he was going to do.  He expressed a strong desire to become involved in community projects and helping people.  He wanted to learn to play golf and was already challenging me to that sport.  In the past week I had set up golf lessons for him with a teaching pro in Auburn.  Sadly, I was never able to tell him.
We had a lot of fun races during the 30 plus years I knew him but then I told him he had won the most important race of all---He had beat me to Heaven!  He just smiled, adjusted his Auburn cap and said “I’ll wait for you.”

Mike was a good friend and we enjoyed having him (and Nancy) as neighbors. Grilling out and watching movies, always with theater popcorn and ice cream, is a good memory. We enjoyed our visits and phone calls with each other as neighbors and after we moved to the beach. Nancy, our prayers will be with you and your family during this time. 

My deepest condolences to your family. Mike and I grew up in the Lakeview Heights area as kids. It was also so much fun! If remember correctly, his mom, was French and loved to hear her talk!

We will always cherish Mike’s jovial smile and friendship.  Thanks for being a part of Sowers Sunday school class for a while.  Mike was a very caring usher for many years at Frazer.  We always enjoyed being welcomed into your loving home.   Mike and Nancy both made everyone feel so welcome.  Mike, we miss you on earth, but know you are completely well and in the arms of Jesus Christ now.

I met Mike over 30 years ago at Frazer in Sunday School Class.  I remember when he and Nancy got married.  I was shocked to hear about his death.  He was always a friendly guy and yes, enjoyed giving all the ladies a hug!!  My prayers are with Nancy and all his family.  Rest In Peace Mike.!!

I will miss Mike greatly - at the ball games and AU events and our frequent phone calls.  He was a great friend. I opened an unrelated email sort of at random and it was almost like Mike was speaking to me. May the Lord be with Mike's family.  Martha and I were one of the original tailgaters when Mike first began with the tent.  Mike always got to the site early and had everything set up and parking arranged.  When we started going to one or 2 AU games, I always knew we would be welcomed at Mike's tailgate tent even though we were not current members of the group.  Mike's passing will leave a huge void in the AU family and as a very good person.  May Mike rest in peace and God bless Nancy and his family.

I worked with Mike. He was always so nice and friendly to me everyday speaking to me and asking me how my morning is going. I am truly going to miss those friendly morning conversations we shared. RIP Mike,  you and your family are in my prayers.

We first met Mike and Nancy in the Sower's Sunday School class, and quickly became friends. We tailgated with them, on several occasions, at the Auburn football games.  Mike would arrive very early just to reserve a spot, and to set up his big screen TV. We also enjoyed several Super Bowl parties at their house.   We watched most of the game from Mike's man cave, which was all decked out in Auburn memorabilia.  Mike left us way too early and we are truly going to miss him, but we know that we'll see him on the other side 🙏

Mark,  please know our hearts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time of loss.  I didn’t know your dad other than a brief time a few years ago when I sat next to him at a STJ football game.  I remember he was a huge football fan and certainly knew the X’s & O’s  of the game and that he was proud of you!   And of course I remember he was a big Auburn fan and better yet raised a great man in you Mark!

We wish to convey our sincerest sympathy to Mike's family. He was a dear friend and a sincerely  sweet individual.  The ladies could always count on Mike for a heart- felt, gentle hug and words of kindness; and EVERYONE could count on him to have an opinion regarding his Auburn Tigers. An outgoing conversationalist, Mike never met a stranger.  His early homecoming will leave a large void in many hearts, and he will be truly missed.

When I think of Mike, I remember the first time Alabama played Auburn in Auburn.  Mike took off that Saturday and went to the game. I had to work at Post Office. On Monday I told him he could have the VCR tape for $5, because as a Bama fan I did not want it. He couldn't believe I wanted to charge him for it, but back then VCR tapes cost about $5. Another thing Mike was, was frugal! RIP Mike and War Eagle.

I am so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing.  We went to Lee High School together and then later both worked for the USPS. He was such a nice guy .  Prayers for all of his family.❤️🙏

I am very saddened to hear of Mikes passing. We went to school together and he married a lady I worked with. Such a nice guy taken way too soon, he will be greatly missed. R.I.P. good and faithful servant. 

Mike was a dedicated and talented USPS employee for 4 decades. He served thousands of families throughout all of Montgomery.  I thank you for your service. God bless you!
