Pam and Herb have been real friends to us since we first met them in Montgomery. Herb, we hold you in our hearts at Pam's death. We treasure the gift of friendship, and we know that God's grace and love will surround you.

Pam was a dear friend.  She and Herb were our neighbors when we lived in Montgomery.  Pam and I had a lot in common.  First of all, we both loved animals.  Pam was so big-hearted.  She was friend to all kinds of critters whether it be pets or wildlife. When my husband and I took trips away, she was the best pet-sitter ever for our cats.

Pam and I also shared the love of buttermilk and cornbread.  We would go over the each others' houses and take turns eating this delicious treat that no one else around seemed to like.  We'd cut a square of hot cornbread, crumble it in a bowl, and top it off with good cold buttermilk.  We'd laugh and visit and talk about how the rest of the world was missing a delicacy by not liking one of our favorite dishes.

We also shared a love of the moon.  Montgomery in the month of October has some of the most beautiful full harvest moons that I've ever seen.  The moon looks like a pumpkin--gigantic and orange.  Pam and I would call each other the moment that the moon would show itself, and we'd step outside and look at the moon together.  We did this so often that sometimes I'd just call her on the phone and leave a two word answer on her answering machine:  MOON ALERT.  "Moon alert" meant for her to get outside and look up into the night sky as soon as possible.  She started doing that same thing for me, too.  I guess that I'll always think of Pam when I see an outstanding moon.

Pam and I also shared a lot of laughter.  We could make things a lot more bearable just by finding something a little humorous in it. We could start visiting about something very serious and end up laughing like school girls.  

Pam's big-heartedness wasn't restricted to animals.  She had a loving and giving nature to every one she met.  The first time she and Herb moved into the neighborhood, she beat me to the introductions.  I should have been the one to welcome her into the neighborhood, but she showed up at my house first, said "I'm Pam Bright, your new neighbor, and if there is anything that I can ever do for you, just ask."  Wow.  Now THAT is a neighbor!  And she meant it, too.  In fact, I found out a few days later that she was recovering from cancer, and yet she came to me (a stranger at that time) and let me know that she was willing to help me in any way.  That was Pam.  That was the way that she gave of herself to others.

One time my husband and I became very sick.  We were ill enough that I couldn't care for him, and he could not care for me.  Pam learned of our illnesses, helped both of us into her car, and drove us to the hospital.  She didn't wait to ask if we were contagious.  She just loaded us in and took us to the emergency room where we were treated for dehydration and later released.  Now THAT is a friend!

There is definitely one thing that we did not have in common, and that is courage.  Pam was one of the bravest people that I know.  She had so many illnesses, and most of them were serious conditions. As I came to know her, I realized that there were few conditions that she DIDN'T have.   Pam had enough "health demons" that I doubt any of us could step into her shoes and live her life without bitterness, self pity, or loss of hope.   I know that she had her dark times, but overall Pam bore enormous burdens, both physical and emotional, yet she (with God's help and with the loving support of Herb) persevered.

Pam had a strong faith in God, and she was one who prayed constantly.  When insomnia hit, she'd use some of those horrible sleepless hours by filling them with prayer.  Then she'd call me the next day and let me know that she had prayed for me, or one of my sick family members, or even for my cats.  Big and small---Pam would take it to God in prayer.

I remember talking about death with Pam.  We both agreed that, whenever we passed away, it would be wonderful to die in our sleep.  We both recognized, though, that we humans don't get to choose those things.  So one comfort that I had when Herb called with the news of Pam's passing was the memory of that wish.  Pam passed away in her sleep.

Good-bye my dear, dear friend.  You have given me years of love and grace.  You have shown me true friendship.  Now may you find peace, wholeness, and wellness in the loving arms of the One who made that golden moon and those shimmering stars.

We love you Dad. The only thing that gives us any comfort about this is that she has struggled medically for so long now and today her body is perfect and she is dancing with Jesus. Jason, our family is heart broken along with yours. We loved Pam very much. Our thoughts and prayers are especially with you.

So sorry to hear about the loss of Pam.  Pam was a sweet, funny lady.  She and I had a lot of fun times in our younger years.  I will always remember all of the fun times we had together and the fun times I had at her house with her parents and Timmy.  Love her and all of her family.  Take care Herb and if you ever need to talk, I am here.  Tell Jason, that he and all of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Zoomie, I know that there is nothing that anybody can do or say that going to make you feel better.  I want you to know that Pam, you, and the family or in our prayers.

I am sorry to hear about Pam.  I can imagine how you feel for I've lost several family members in the past.  What can we do to help?  Please call us at 277-7829.  You know Pam is with Jesus and not in any more pain or hurt. We are praying for you and your family.
