Robert Strom Needham, lovingly known as Rob or Robbie, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the age of 55 in Montgomery, Alabama after a long battle with cancer. Born on October 28, 1969, in Omaha, Nebraska, Rob lived a life defined by kindness, integrity, and an unwavering love for his family and community.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 21 years, Audra, and their beloved daughter Emily, whom he cherished above all else. Rob also leaves behind his brother, Lloyd Needham; his stepfather, Jeff; Audra’s family, whom he loved and proudly considered his own; and a wide circle of dear friends who became his chosen family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert LeClaire Needham and Suzee Folden.
Rob retired in 2020 from a long and fulfilling career in the car industry, where he combined his passion for vehicles with his genuine love for people. Known for his honesty and ability to connect with anyone, Rob was as comfortable under the hood of a car as he was in a heartfelt conversation.
A true jack of all trades, Rob could fix nearly anything—cars, computers, appliances—and was always willing to lend a hand. He loved animals, the outdoors, riding his Harley, gaming on his compuer, and spending time with his cherished kitties. But above all, he found his greatest joy in being a father. He taught Emily how to fish, how to work on her Jeep, and how to face life without fear. Retirement, though difficult for someone who never shied away from hard work, became a blessing. It gave him the time to support Emily fully—traveling across the country for her softball tournaments and embracing every role from motivator to videographer, giver of nicknames to trusted advisor.
Rob never let his illness define him. He embraced life fully, with heart, humor, and humility. He had a gift for reading a room and making everyone feel seen. His presence was steady, his laughter contagious, and his love enduring.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Saint James Church in Montgomery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the service to follow.
In lieu of flowers, an account has been established at PNC Bank to support Emily’s educational expenses—honoring Rob’s legacy by investing in the future he cared about most.
