Once married, she lived across the country, actively raising her daughters and volunteering her time as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, Volunteer Elementary Art Teacher and various school fundraisers. She worked at a craft store as well as sold crafts at nearby events. Some notable favorites were Santa Claus pinatas and Santa Claus napkin rings.
Sandra loved being a Grammy attending and helping with as many events as possible involving her family. She was always up for a home improvement project, painting, flower arranging, bow making, crafts, cooking and gardening. She knew so much about so many things and was very generous with her time teaching and helping her family (and even their friends). She completed two half marathons in addition to other shorter races.
Sandra was a Graduate of Auburn University at Montgomery with a B.S. in Psychology. During her career at Alfa Insurance, she completed the Certificate in General Insurance, Associate in Underwriting, Certified Professional Insurance Women, Toastmasters International Communications and Leadership Certification. She began at Alfa in 1981 as an Assistant District Underwriter then earned promotions to District Underwriter, Senior Underwriter, and Regional Underwriter. She was instrumental in making established processes more efficient and responsible for conducting workshops for agents. In 2000, Sandra was promoted to Technical Specialist for the Property and Commercial Underwriting Departments. In addition to her work, she volunteered as Executive on Loan for United Way, Alfa Tutor and charitable walk and run teams. She was well respected and liked by her co-workers as they expressed at her retirement luncheon in 2008.
After retirement, Sandra volunteered as an art teacher for the Mental Health Association in Montgomery. She also became a Master Gardener, which was an extension of her love for flowers, especially peonies.
Sandra was a part of so many memories for those that knew her and she will be forever missed. In honor of her gardener spirit please feel free to wear colors.
Graveside funeral services will take place at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Alabama Heritage Cemetery 10505 Atlanta Highway Montgomery, AL 36117. A reception will follow.
