

He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Carol; his children, Kathie Blaze Capps (James) and Stephen Douglas Brown Jr. (Sommer); and his beloved grandchildren, Bailey Blaze, Georgia Blaze, Catie Capps, Dustin Bradford, Caleb Brown, Sydnie Brown, and Lucy Brown; great granddaughter Saylor Bradford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Sara Katherine Brown.
Stephen dedicated over 55 years of his life to ministry through the Southern Baptist Convention. He attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and faithfully served in numerous congregations throughout his career. His ministry began as a Youth Minister at United Methodist Church in Jefferson Town, Kentucky, and continued as Minister of Education at North Johnson City Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee. He later served at South Roebuck Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama (Minister of Youth and Education), First Baptist Church in Andalusia, Alabama (Minister of Education), Roebuck Park Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama (Minister of Education and Church Administrator), Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama (Minister of Education), and Northport Baptist Church in Northport, Alabama (Minister of Education and Administration). In retirement he served at Creekside Fellowship in Castalian Springs, Tennessee (Minister of Education) His commitment to teaching, guiding, and shepherding others left a lasting impact on every congregation he served.
He served for over 40 years as a State Missionary with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Mission - Office of Sunday School. He also served as an author of Sunday School materials and other publications with Lifeway Publishing.
In addition to his ministry, Stephen was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. His dedication to mentoring young people extended beyond the church, and his involvement with scouting reflected his passion for leadership, service, and shaping future generations.
Outside of his ministry and community work, Stephen found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid reader who always enjoyed a good book, and he took great pride in supporting his grandchildren in all of their endeavors. His steadfast faith, quick wit, and devotion to his family will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, with visitation and a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that donations be made to Taylor Road Baptist Church- The Myers- Mallory State Missions Offering.
