Susan was born in 1940 at her family's home in Merrill, Iowa, the same town where she met her husband, Jack. At age 7 or 8, She committed her life to Christ as a born-again believer at a local Summer Bible School event in Iowa.
Susan married her husband of 48 years, Jack Crawford, in 1960, and bore three sons, and was widowed in 2009. She was loved and cherished by all her family and children, and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her oldest son, John and his wife Sherrie (Alabama); her second son Paul (Alabama); her third son, Carl (South Dakota); her two sisters, Sharon Ducommun (Iowa) and Sylvia Heckmann (Germany); 5 grandchildren: Jared (Beth); Amberly (Derek); Aubrey (Michael); John Isaac (Sydney); Noah (Sarah); and 10 great grandchildren: Caelan, Maddox, Jaxson, Brynleigh, Caleb, Asa, Benjamin, David, Owen, and Landon.
She was an avid bread-baker, wonderful chef (who made the world‘s best coffee cake and Cheeseburger pie), seamstress, musician, and co-founder of Light for the Day photo website (LightfortheDay.com), a ministry to reach all people for Jesus. As she liked to say, the Lord called her to be “a fisher of men” through the inter-“net”.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother with a gentle and quiet spirit. One of her favorite Bible verses was Proverbs 14:30, “A calm and undisturbed mind and heart are the life and health of the body.”
One of her most important goals in life was to spread the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She lived her life as a witness of the love and transformative power of the Lord. She was exceptionally generous: always super-tipping and leaving Scriptural cards and witnessing tracts everywhere.
She is singularly responsible for the salvation of all three of her sons and subsequent family. She prayed every morning and lifted up each family member by name every day. One of her favorite hymns was “Sweet Hour of Prayer“. She placed Scripture in every room of her house; her desk was covered with Bibles and Scriptural commentaries.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her legacy of faith, love, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
In the recent past, Susan confidently stated that she had run her race, finished her course, had lived a good and long life, and was ready to “go be with Jesus.”
In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please consider making a donation to Jews for Jesus: one of the ministries she was most passionate about.
