William “Wiley” Creech, also affectionately known as “Buddy,” currently of Montgomery, Alabama and formerly of Greenville, Alabama, passed away on April 27, 2026, at the age of 89. Born January 18, 1937, Wiley was raised in Greenville, Alabama, where early on he showed the steady courage and determination that would guide his life—qualities marked by resilience, loyalty, and a deep devotion to those he loved.
Wiley attended Greenville High School in 1955 devoting his time to the football team. During the morning hours before school he worked on his family's dairy farm, and after school he helped grow their soy bean and corn crops. He later attended Sewanee University on a well-earned football scholarship, and went on to Auburn University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Agriculture and a Master’s degree in Finance. Even in those years, Wiley’s industrious spirit was unmistakable. While pursuing his education, he worked in the school cafeteria and served as a resident assistant to help cover expenses, and when he was not in class or working on campus, he continued working by milking cows—sending the money he earned back home to his parents.
Shortly after college, Wiley attended a blind date and met the love of his life, Priscilla Danner. After two months of dating, they were married on February 21, 1964, beginning a partnership rooted in faithfulness, steadfast care, and enduring commitment.
Wiley honorably served in the United States Air Force as a Sgt for six years. In recognition of his service, he earned the State of Alabama National Emergency Service Medal, the Alabama National Guard Certificate of Merit, and the Active Duty Training Ribbon of Alabama. His sense of duty and perseverance carried into civilian life as well. After military service, he worked at First National Bank as a loan officer, putting his Master’s degree in Finance to work in a career from which he eventually retired. Yet retirement from one job never meant slowing down: when he was not at the bank, he was home farming after hours, tending beef cattle. After retiring, Wiley continued working in the trucking industry for another 15 years, a testament to a tireless work ethic and a lifelong willingness to do what needed to be done.
After retirement, Wiley became a member of the Freemasons alongside his father in law. He remained active and engaged, with a love for the outdoors that extended beyond farmwork. He enjoyed dove and quail hunting and spent many peaceful moments fishing by ponds. A sports fan throughout his life, Wiley followed football and baseball with equal enthusiasm, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Braves.
Above all, Wiley cherished his family and valued time spent together. Many evenings were filled with family game nights—card games, Shanghai, dominos, and poker—and he also enjoyed going to the casino. He and his family shared trips to the beach and the lake, building memories shaped by togetherness and the quiet strength of a man who showed his love through presence, constancy, and care. A man of strong faith, Wiley attended First Baptist Church of Greenville, Pike Road Baptist Church, lastly St James United Methodist Church guided by a devoted and faithful spirit that remained central throughout his life.
Wiley’s perseverance was evident from the earliest days. When he was only five years old, he hitchhiked from Greenville, Alabama, all the way to Florida to visit his aunt and uncle—an early glimpse of the adventurous resolve that would remain part of him. His hard-working nature, his promise to always care for his family, and his faith were a lasting source of inspiration to those who knew him.
Wiley was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Creech and Rebecca Howard Creech. He is survived by his loving wife, Priscilla Danner Creech; daughter, Julie White (Barry); grandchildren, Ashton Victoria White and Ansley White Flowers (Lance); sisters, Sarah Creech and Joanne Thomas (Dr. Bill); nephew, Justin Lovvorn (Nicole) of Greenville; niece, Shannon Dunn (Brian) of Prattville; and five great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL 36117, US, on May 1, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. with a Graveside Service immediately following at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, 10505 Atlanta Highway, Montgomery, AL 36117, US, on May 1, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in honor of Wiley to your local humane society.
In remembering Wiley, family and friends honor a life defined by steadfast faith, loyal devotion, and an unwavering willingness to work, serve, and provide—an enduring legacy of resilience and love.
