

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 17 at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church, 6000 Atlanta Hwy. Montgomery, AL. Reverend Rhon Carleton will be officiating. Interment will follow at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church in Montgomery. Friends may call from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Church. Bill was born March 22, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio to William Anthony and Palma Lloyda (Bauersfeld) Zimmerman. He graduated from Hughes High School in 1946 and from the Ohio State University in 1952. On September 8, 1951 he married the former Claire Louise Neulman in Cincinnati. Bill served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 until 1949. His motto was “Once a Marine, always a Marine”. Bill was employed in the food transportation and grocery warehousing industry and was well respected manager and leader in his field. He was known for his gift and ability to work with all. He enjoyed sharing his love for the Lord and talents and after retirement in 1996 continued to volunteer with Frazer UMC and his community serving in a variety of capacities: choir with singing and constructing sets for cantatas and working in music library, the Men’s Annual Bar-B-Q, Volunteers In Police Service, and Habitat for Humanity. He served on the Financial Board of Trustees at Frazer UMC. He loved planes, was an avid wood worker and an active Boy Scout Leader. He also enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his love of life, wife, Claire of Montgomery, AL, one son, William “Bill” Harold Zimmerman and his wife Philomena M. (Baryza) Zimmerman of Nanjemoy, MD, two daughters, Diane Louise (Zimmerman) Kaufman and her husband Bruce Van Kaufman of Manassas, VA, Donna Claire (Zimmerman) Staples and her husband Gregory Staples of Lilburn, GA; eight grandchildren, William Stanley Zimmerman and his wife Robin (Pubbi) of Elkridge, MD, Matthew Jacob Zimmerman, Peter Aaron Zimmerman, and Joan Claire Zimmerman of MD, Robert Bruce Kaufman and Amanda Rose Kaufman of VA, Stefany Skye Staples and Gregory Staples, Jr. of GA, and Great Grandson William Dev-Raj Zimmerman, and niece Judy Ellen McKinley Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Palma, and his nephew Jay Clifford McKinley, Jr. in 2015.
