

James Louis Spirros died on March 30, 2023 from a long illness at his residence in Morgan City, Louisiana surrounded by his family. James was born on December 1, 1939 in Athens, Greece to his parents, Leonidas and Sofia Spirros, who predeceased him.
James is survived by his loving wife Monya of 54 years and his children, Catherine and Louis: his siblings Magdalene Maag, and her husband Richard and Constantina Vatranis and her husband Dimitrios and their families of Metairie, Louisiana. He is also survived by his Aunt Barbara Christakos Wagner of Fort Pierce, Florida and cousin Yannis Vassilopoulos and his wife Rachele of Mandeville, Louisiana, as well as many other cousins in Chicago, St. Louis, Boston, New York, ,Du Lac, Wisconsin, Toms River, New Jersey, Ridgefield, Connecticut, and Loutro and Athens, Greece.
His memory lives on with his nieces and nephews: David Maag and his wife Cindy of Chalmette, Louisiana and Diana Maag of Pine Ridge, South Dakota: Anastasia Rico and her husband Roger of Kenner, Louisiana and Maria Vatranis and Emily of Gretna, Louisiana as well as nieces and nephews in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He also has many Great Nieces and Nephews as well.
Born in Greece, James survived the German occupation of his village, Valyra, and in 1946 the family immigrated to the United States and settled in New Iberia, Louisiana to join their Uncle Tom Spirros who was a small business owner there. He never forgot his Greek roots, visiting his family members back in Greece throughout his lifetime.
James attended New Iberia High School and enjoyed playing football and running track.. He excelled in the long distance events and his track prowess earned him an athletic scholarship at The University Of Southwestern Louisiana- USL where he graduated with a Business degree.
James began his lifelong professional career in the insurance industry in New Orleans, Louisiana but in 1971 moved to Morgan City, Louisiana and a few years later opened up Atchafalaya Insurance Agency. In later years, Atchafalaya would become affiliated with Stiel Insurance Services.
In New Orleans James was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association and also was a charter member of The Krewe of Adonis in Morgan City, Louisiana.
Loving the out of doors as a young teenager, James became an accomplished hunter and fisherman, enjoying these activities throughout his life before becoming too ill to participate in them any longer.
James also was a consummate reader and always had a life-long thirst for knowledge....
The family of James will have a memorial celebration at a later date to honor the life of James Spirros.
