Madelyn’s heart held endless love for her family. As a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her greatest happiness came from the time spent with her loved ones. You could always find Madelyn in the kitchen cooking her rice and gravy with corn maque choux which was her kids and grandkid’s favorite. She loved to bake, often making her banana nut bread, with its crunchy walnuts and occasional craisins, alongside her decadent German Chocolate Cake, rich Mahogany Cake, and peach cobbler.
Outside the kitchen, Madelyn loved being outside in her garden, which flourished under her care, a true reflection of her nurturing spirit. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, dancing with her grandkids in the kitchen and sharing laughs on shopping trips with friends, though she often came home with more memories than purchases. Her faith was a guiding light, and she cherished every opportunity to attend church services, finding peace and strength in her devotion. Madelyn’s life was full of love, warmth, joy and beautiful memories. She was kind and gentle and had boundless affection for those she held dear.
Those left to cherish her beautiful memory are her three sons, Neil Fontenot of Youngsville, Christopher Fontenot and his wife, Melissa, of Gonzales, and Phillip Fontenot of Morgan City;her eight grandchildren who called Madelyn "Memaw", Kristyn, Christopher Jr., Charli, Laney, Mattie, Mallory, Lauren, and Carson; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Cynthia Marcantel.
She was preceded in death by her husband. Edius "Ed" Fontenot; her parents, Avie and Ida Mayeux; her granddaughter, Mindy Kay; and her brother, Jerry Mayeux.
