November 20, 1926~October 1, 2014
In the early hours, October 1, 2014, our passionate Savior wrapped his loving arms around a man whose earthly job was done.
Roy Joseph Simoneaux was born November 20, 1926, in Brusly St. Martin. As a young man, his family moved to Metairie, Louisiana. There he joined the United State Army during WWII. After discharge he began his career with South Central Bell. As an installer, he met the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Doretha David Simoneaux. Together they raised four children; Michael Simoneaux (wife Nita), Bonnye Simoneaux Livesay (husband Jim) David Simoneaux (wife Kelly), and Marie Therese’ (Tessie) Simoneaux DuBois (husband John).
After retirement, Roy and Dee spent the next 11 years traveling the United States visiting 49 out of 50. Though they continued to travel, the remaining years of his life were spent enjoying and making memories with his children, grandchildren: Chadd DuBois (wife Ashley), Jacob DuBois, Kassi Harrington (husband Seth), Jesse Simoneaux (wife Brittany), Phillip (PJ) Livesay (wife Tracey), Clinton Livesay (wife Amber), Raymond Leonard (wife Stephania), Cody Simoneaux, Chase Simoneaux, and Colton Simoneaux and great grandchildren: Ava Harrington, Kate Harrington, Kason Simoneaux, Caleb Simoneaux, Devin Livesay, Kayley Livesay, Dylann Livesay, Dean Livesay, Tristen Leonard, Raymond Leonard, Jr., Kaylay Benoit, Kaiden Arceneaux, Bray’Lynn Paul, Riley DuBois, and Kinzley DuBois.
Roy will also be missed by his remaining siblings; brother Philip Simoneaux (wife Carol), sisters, Katie Simoneaux (husband Huey) and Mary Francis.
When not enjoying his extensive family, he loved to sit for hours at the camp with a pole, catching his favorite dinner; catfish for frying. Sunday mornings you could find him ushering at Sacred Heart Church. His organizational and leadership skills won the respect of his peers.
Everyone Roy met will remember him fondly. His ever-readiness to help, quick sense of humor, and Cajun storytelling and jokes, endeared him to many hearts.
In loving memory of Roy, Daddy, Pop, Paw Paw Roy and PaPop.
God’s Garden
God looked around His garden, and found an empty place. He then looked upon the earth, and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you, and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He knew that you were suffering; He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well on this earth again. He saw the road was getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids and whispered, “Peace be thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
Visitation will be Friday October 3, 2014 at Hargrave Funeral Home from 6 pm until 9 pm. Visitation will continue Saturday October 4, 2014 at the Funeral Home at 8 am until dismissal at 10. 30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church beginning at 11 am. Graveside services will be conducted by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
