Edward Herman Harmsen, age 76, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019 in Muskegon. He was born on June 16, 1943 in Muskegon to the late George and Lila (Gentz) Harmsen. Edward was a member of the Connection Point Church, the V.F.W. Post 7729, and served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked at Wesco and retired in 2005 from Menards after 10 years. Edward is survived by his wife, Carol, a daughter, Dana Abernethy, a brother, Doug (Gen) Harmsen, a daughter in law, Renee Harmsen, a brother in law, Stan Gillespie, 5 grandchildren, Caleb, Lydia, JoAnna, Logan, and Brendon, 4 step grandchildren, Lauren, James, Greg, and Steve, and 3 step great grandchildren, Aubrey, Carter, and Evelyn. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Gillespie, a son, Thomas Harmsen, and a son in law, Christopher Abernethy. There will be a Memorial service on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019 at the Connections Point Church (2270 S. Mill Iron Rd. Muskegon) at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Aaron Gregory officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Church or the American Heart Association.
