

Genevieve “Gen” Juanita (Jackson) Morrison Poehl passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, at the age of 91. She was born in Austin Township, MI, at her grandmother’s house on June 2nd, 1934, to Ralph and Ione (née Wilbur) Jackson. She graduated from Western Michigan Christian High School in Muskegon in 1952. She then attended Lee University in Cleveland, TN, and Western Michigan University, graduating in 1967.
While living in Tennessee, she met her first husband, John Allen Morrison, and they were married on November 26, 1954. Together, they raised three daughters: Sheila, Sheryl, and Kimberly. Gen taught at Mona Shores Public Schools from 1965 until her retirement in 1993. After retiring, she and John lived in Tennessee for several years before returning to Michigan. Their marriage spanned 60 wonderful years until his passing in 2015. Later, she was blessed with love again and married Jerald John Poehl on April 20th, 2017. They enjoyed life in Muskegon and traveled together to enjoy Florida’s sunshine.
She is survived by her loving husband of eight years, Jerald Poehl; daughters Sheila Morrison and Kimberly Britton; son-in-law Jeff Lupien (Betty); as well as her Poehl family: David (Linda) Poehl, Shelia (Larry) Boerema, and Rob (Anne) Poehl. Her grandchildren include Jennifer (Brad) Doyle, Jessica (Tyler) Leichty, Alicia (Michael) Sharp, LeAnne (Leonardo) Prado Colina, Cody Britton, Kae Britton, Rachel Britton, Jessica (Chris) Stogsdill, Jonathon (Chrissy) Poehl, Jared (Alexandria) Poehl, Brent (Sarah) Boerema, Stephanie (Chris) Kazanowski, Robyn (Tyler) Miedema, Zachariah Poehl, and Andrew Poehl. She leaves 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John Morrison; her daughter, Sheryl Lupien; her parents, Ralph and Ione Jackson; and her brother, Floyd Jackson.
Her life will be forever cherished by all fortunate enough to know her – including her immediate and extended family, former students, church community, and friends far and wide.
A service to celebrate Gen's life will be held on Tuesday, January 27th, 2026, at Central Assembly of God, 896 Home Street, Muskegon, MI 49442. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a service to follow at 11:00 am.
