

Mr. John G. English, 77, passed away peacefully March 9, 2011 . He was surrounded by his children in the caring atmosphere at Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. A native of Bad Axe, MI., he was a graduate of Michigan State University and held advanced degrees from Central Michigan and MSU. Mr. English was an army veteran, serving in France as a Special Agent in the Counter-Intelligence Corps. He taught school in Pontiac and Mt. Pleasant and was a high school principal at North Huron Schools. He was integral in the design and opening of the new Orchard View Middle School in 1966, and remained principal there until his retirement in 1986. Mr. English was an innovative educational leader and contributed several articles dealing with curriculum and school philosophy to professional journals. A devoted family man, he is survived by his daughters; Cathy (Ted) Chittenden of Walker, and Nancy (Gary) Grigsby of Muskegon; sons; Frank (Lisa) English of Spring Lake, and Robert (Kris) English of Panama City Beach, FL.; beloved grandchildren; Katie and Sara Chittenden, Laurie and Lexie English, and Chloe and Joshua Grigsby; his former wife, Anne Rapoport, and his twin brother, Jerry English of Watchahaxie, Texas. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and David English. John was a long-time member of the Lakeside Veteran’s Club and a strong supporter of Pound Buddies. A celebration of John’s life will be held Sunday, March 13, between 2-5 pm at the Mona Lake Boating Club, 372 Randall Road .
