Katharina Johnson

Katharina "Katie" Johnson, age 93, went to be with her Savior on Monday, May 18, 2026. She was born on August 4, 1932, in Wartenburg, Germany. She met and married Bruce Johnson in March of 1954 and moved to the United States in September of 1954. With great pride, she became a United States Citizen in 1958.

Katie spent many years working for the W.T. Grant Company in the seventies at the Needle Women's Fabric Shop at West Gate Plaza.

She lovingly cared for most of her grandchildren on a daily basis while their parents worked. She also looked after her great-grandchildren for several years. She found great joy in these moments and cherished every minute spent with them.

Katie was grateful for her wonderful neighbors and their thoughtful help, especially her three friends who were her back door neighbors. She truly enjoyed their visits and the time they spent together.

Katie is survived by: her children, Mary Hood, John (Sue) Johnson, Jane (Tony) Helsen, and Mark (Kathy) Johnson; Jim Johnson, seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren with one on the way; sister-in-law, Ruth (Roger) Gravengood and nieces and nephews.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Johnson; parents, Josef and Katharina Proebst; her siblings Christini, Lisa, Rosie, Theresa, Josef, Franz and son-in-law, Bill Hood.

In accordance with Katie’s wishes, cremation will take place, no service is planned.
