

Marilyn Doreen Engstrom (Liefer) passed away Tuesday, October 28th, 2025. Marilyn was born on February 25th, 1937 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Bernard and Myrtle (Goranson) Liefer and resided in the Muskegon area. Marilyn graduated from Muskegon Heights High School and enjoyed 65 years of marriage to Allan Engstrom. Marilyn was an accomplished bowler-winning the city singles championship one year. Later in life, she enjoyed golf and singing in the White Lake Community Choir and Evanston Baptist Church's praise team. Marilyn was also an avid Detroit Tiger's fan. She also humbly assisted her husband in four different church ministries visiting the sick and shut-in, playing piano, singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday school, preparing church bulletins, cleaning church restrooms, and vacuuming the carpets. For many years she has been a member of Evanston Church. Marilyn was a wonderful mom and pastor's wife, augmenting the family income by working as a savings-and-loan teller and veterinary assistant.
Marilyn was preceded in death by: her husband, Allan; her parents; her infant son, Earl; three brothers, Ken, Bill, and Don; and sisters-in-law, Shirley and Lorraine.
Marilyn is survived by: her children, James (Jan), Jeffery (Gail), Gregory, and Vicki; sister-in-law, Karen; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and her favorite cat, Molly.
A visitation will take place from 4:00pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, November 7th at Ever Rest Funeral Home, 1783 E. Keating Ave. Muskegon, MI 49442. The following day, Saturday, November 8th, 2025 at 2:00pm a funeral service for Marilyn will be held at Evanston Church, 1188 Evanston Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. The family will welcome guests one hour prior to the start of the funeral at church. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Evanston Church.
