Mattie D Jones

Mattie D. Jones, age 82, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 17, 2015. She was born in Starkville, Mississippi on July 19, 1932 to parents David and Ada (Lee) Townsel. Mattie graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1955, and later attended Muskegon Community College where she obtained her nursing license in 1981. Mattie married the love of her life, J.W. Jones, on September 12, 1959, who survives her. To this union nine children were born. She was a member at Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Church, where she served faithfully on several auxiliaries. Mattie faithfully read God’s Word. She was a gifted vocalist, a talented seamstress, and she enjoyed sewing for her children. She also enjoyed gardening and cooking. Mattie will be lovingly remembered by her children: Donna Mae Jones of Kalamazoo, Jeffrey W. Jones of Muskegon, Samuel M. (special friend, Shauntina Butler) Jones of Muskegon Heights, David Lee Jones of Muskegon Heights, Steven B. (Amelia) Jones of Muskegon Heights, Josephine L. (Vernonell) Smith of Muskegon Heights, Amy M. (Willie Earl) Jones-Feggins of Muskegon Heights, Bryce A. Jones of Muskegon, Keri D. (William) Taylor of Muskegon Heights; 34 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; siblings: Lena Blackshire, Rosie Lee Potts; sister in law, Helen Townsel; special niece, Ruby Coleman; her flower girl, Ernestine Boyd; special nephew, David “Juno” Townsel; special goddaughter, Cathy Williams; several other nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by parents: David and Ada Townsel; granddaughter, LaToya; siblings: KD Townsel, Jim Boy Townsel, Verla Scott, Hester Sanders, A.Z. “Bozo” Townsel, William “Buddy” Townsel, Nettie Golidy, and Arthur D. Townsel; best friend, Nola Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Church (412 E. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon Heights). The family will receive visitors on Friday, May 29, 2015 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Ever Rest Funeral Home & Chapel (1783 E. Keating Ave., Muskegon). Interment at Mona View Cemetery immediately following the service.
