Benjamin (Ben) Robert Weaver passed away peacefully on May 18, 2023 at the age of 84 after a difficult struggle with pancreatic cancer.
Ben was born in Vancouver, BC, on March 21, 1939, the oldest of one brother and four sisters. Predeceased by his beloved parents, Robert (1987), mother Grace (2002), brother John (1988), and second wife Sue (2021). Ben is survived by his first wife Joyce and their three sons, Robert (Kim), Chris (Tanis), and Stuart (Orlena), four sisters, Patricia, Marion, Jean and Bernice, and by a very special stepdaughter, Chris, and her husband Greg, who have provided him with a happy and loving family relationship. Ben is survived also by ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family moved to a Langley dairy farm in 1945, where Ben grew up and graduated from high school in 1957. In 1960, Ben began a 32 year banking career, first with the Bank of Montreal, serving in several branches throughout BC, and later with the Federal Business Development Bank, eventually serving in management in Prince George. Following retirement from banking, Ben was employed in Nanaimo as a Funeral Assistant for many years with First Memorial Funeral Services, eventually taking full retirement in 2016.
Ben enjoyed playing golf at various courses around Vancouver Island over the years, playing cards, dinners out with friends and family, travelling with Sue in their motor home, and gardening. Ben also enjoyed adding to and maintaining a large Bing Crosby music and memorabilia collection that he started at the age of 12.
Ben will be missed by many friends at the BC Pensioners and Seniors Branch 4 Community Centre, by his Langley high school graduation class after enjoying many happy reunions over the years, and by his many friends at Berwick On The Lake Seniors Community, where he had resided since 2020.
Thanks to Doctors Bland and Kenward at the Caledonian Medical Clinic for their dedication and supportive care over the years. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations to the BC Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
