Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband Gordon, and her dear daughter Nancy, her sister Ruth Mann and brother Jim Cochrane, and her parents Percy and Olive Cochrane. She leaves behind her son Bruce (Linda) and son-in-law Gary, granddaughters Nicole (Matthew) and Carolyn (Trevor), and great-grandchildren Abigail, Elijah, Shyla, and Juniper. Edith was also loved dearly by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Edith was born and raised in East Burnaby, taught school in Vancouver, and lived in West Vancouver before moving with her husband and children to Qualicum Beach in 1961. Edith and Gordon owned and operated the Crescent Motel, with guests becoming friends over many years. Edith’s teaching career in Qualicum focused on supporting struggling students at Qualicum Beach Secondary School. Edith was also dedicated to her church and wider community, and was one of the founders of SOS (Society of Organized Services). She received the Canada Volunteer Award in Ottawa in 1988 and, in recognition of many years of volunteer service to her local, and wider, Anglican Church, received the Bishop’s Medal in the Order of the Diocese of British Columbia and was made an Honorary Life Warden at St. Anne and St. Edmund Anglican Church, Parksville.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for 1:00 pm Sunday, May 21, 2023 at St. Anne and St. Edmund’s Church. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to SOS. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Eagle Park for all the loving care Edith received while living there.
