Frank was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. Shortly after graduation from high school, he joined the Armed Forces, got married, and started raising a family. For the next twenty years he, Joan and family became fully immersed in Armed Forces life, moving every couple of years as required. Frank was actively involved in swimming instruction and examination, Boy Scouts, fishing, hunting, camping, car rallies, winter carnivals and other base activities. Most summers, Frank would load the family, two dogs and a pile of camping gear into the car and drive from wherever they were living, back to the BC Coast to visit the Grandparents. On retiring from the Forces he moved the family back to Vancouver, and within a year to Port Hardy, initially working at the airport, but later getting what would be a ‘dream job’ for him with BC Tel (now known as Telus).
Port Hardy provided the perfect lifestyle for Frank, and with the kids grown and moved out, he was soon pursuing his lifelong dream of sailing. He was happiest at the helm of ‘Harpy’ fishing and crabbing. It was through boating with friends that he met his second wife, Herma. Frank spent many years sailing ‘Harpy’ all over the BC coast and eventually to Mexico and back.
When he wasn’t sailing, he was exploring on land. After retirement from Telus, he and Herma made an extended trip across Canada, the USA and to Mexico in their fifth wheel. His last move was to Nanaimo in 2011, to be closer to medical care and family.
Frank had a love of life, sailing, family, friendships, dogs and everything outdoors. He passed this love along to his children and grandchildren and they in turn shall continue in the same vein. He will be missed but never forgotten.
As per Frank's wishes, his ashes will be scattered in a private Celebration of Life in Blunden Harbour when the weather permits. An informal Celebration of Life is being planned for mid-January 2024 in the Central Island area. Please let a family member know if you are likely to attend (to assist us with our planning). In lieu of flowers kindly make a donation to your favorite charity.
