Jill Marie Boas of Nanaimo, BC, spent her last few days surrounded by family, and passed away on April 25, 2025. Jill was born on November 2, 1939 in Penticton, BC to Paul and May Wiseman. To anyone that knew Jill during her Alzheimer’s journey, they knew that Naramata was her forever home, where she was raised with her sisters, Bev, Carol (deceased) and Lynne.
Jill is survived by her four children and their spouses: Randy and Leanne, Sandra and Bernie, Gary and Janine, Brian and Traci. She is further survived by her ten grandchildren who meant everything to her: Nichele and Calvin; Nicole (Dan), Katie (Henry), Eric (Richa); Hannah, Madelin and Grace; Mackenzie and Matthew and her two great grandchildren Owen and Logan.
After graduating from Pen High in 1957, Jill ventured to Victoria where she earned her teacher’s certificate and shortly thereafter, married Murray. She taught wherever the Air Force posted them including Puntzi Mountain, Cold Lake, Red Deer, Kamloops, Beaverlodge, Shilo and Moose Jaw. Upon arriving in Nanaimo in 1979, Jill found new friendships and purpose working at Woodward’s and the Bay.
Jill was at her happiest when she was giving to others, this would be in the form of beautiful homemade gifts including knitted socks and slippers, sweaters, blankets, quilts, hope chests, rocking chairs, snowmen and so many more things. She was also a talented baker and was well known for her delicious banana bread, cookies, butterhorns and squares made by the dozens!
To honour Jill and Murray’s memory, the family is creating a photo collection of the homemade gifts they shared over the years. If you have something they made, please consider sending a photo to [email protected]
A private service will be held at the family’s request.
Our heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers and support workers who helped care for Jill during her time at Wexford Creek. That wheelchair had a lot of miles on it!
