Margaret passed away peacefully with her partner Keith, daughter Robyn, granddaughter Taylor and best friend Shirley surrounding her with love at Trillium Lodge, Parksville. She fought a valiant battle with cancer for many years; bravely taking on each diagnosis and surprising everyone, including her doctors with her strength and ability to rally.
Margaret was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to career army dad, Robert Deegan and her namesake mother, Margaret. She had two siblings, Kathy and Terry. After travelling to many places including living in Germany, the family settled in Vancouver where Margaret started her career in banking. She went on to meet her former husband, Bill Coleman, and they settled in Surrey, BC and welcomed their beautiful daughter, Robyn.
Margaret had an entrepreneurial spirit and opened her own uniform shop at Guildford Mall where she conducted a successful business for several years. She later went back to the banking world which she made a career of.
Margaret loved life and was always busy. It can be said that she lived life to the fullest. She travelled the world including Egypt, but her favourite place was Kauai, Hawaii as she was very much a sun worshiper. Once her granddaughter, Taylor, arrived she would sew all sorts of beautiful outfits, and once Taylor got older, she loved to stay with her grandma in the summer for their thrift store adventures.
People remember Margaret for her infectious laugh, outgoing nature, and beautiful dimples. Margaret made many friends over the years. Margaret moved to Nanaimo, where she found her passion for lawn bowling and enjoyed the camaraderie and the wonderful people she met through the sport. It was here she met her partner, Keith. She was an active volunteer for many years at the club and will be very much missed. She would always tell stories of different tournaments, participating in the fun dress up days, and antics of her friends at the club. Just a few years ago, Margaret was reunited with her daughter, Lori. She was so grateful to meet her again and it was a happy reunion.
Margaret loved animals; she had many dogs throughout her whole life with golden retrievers being her favourite. Her daughter, Robyn says, “There is not enough paper to express how much love we have for you Mom. So, for now, we hope you are surrounded by all your family and the dogs in heaven, until we meet again. We will love you always, Robyn and Taylor xxx”
