Today is the one year anniversary of the passing of Margaret Mona Hunt. Daughter of James, Patrick and Matilda. (nee Rutland.) Hunt.
Maggie was the oldest of four children. At the age of 10, she and her three siblings lost their loving mother to a sudden illness.
Several years later, with encouragement from her grandmother, Maggie was enrolled in a nursing school, which paved her way to a long and successful career in the Sheffield Children's Hospital, eventually becoming Sister in the O.R.
Throughout this time, Maggie, who was tremendously gifted in many artistic abilities, had followed her love of attending the local auction houses, and antique shops. Her home was filled with antique furniture and treasures she had collected over the years.
Maggie was also a wonderful seamstress and many were the outfits she created. In the kitchen, she was no less gifted. She loved to cook and her meals and cakes, etc. were always delicious.
In her younger years, she was also an avid gardener... her energy was boundless for most of her long life.
Around the age of 50 her friend, the matron of the prestigious Great Ormond Street Hospital persuaded Maggie to come and work there, so Maggie packed up her lovely life in the north of England and spent the next several years (and loving it) in London.
Before she left London, another friend of many years invited Maggie to spend some time with her in South Africa...of course Maggie went, and of course she loved it. During these years, Maggie had travelled many times to British Columbia to visit family and at the tender age of 60 years, she decided to immigrate to Canada. For several years, she lived in the outskirts of Vancouver before settling into Her Own home in Qualicum Beach where she lived until well into her 90s.
Her Health and Mobility eventually deteriorated, but her spirit was always alive.
Maggie was a much loved treasure. She was a funny, bright and gifted lady to the end of her long life.
She passed away a few months before her 100th birthday.
We hope to hold an informal gathering in Qualicum at a later date to raise a glass to our Lovely Maggie.
