It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Warren West on February 25, 2026 in Nanaimo, British Columbia, at the age of 81. He faced his kidney disease quietly and courageously until the end.
A homesteader, farmer, fisherman, and public servant with Public Works and Government Services Canada, Ron loved the land, the lake, the ocean, and to fish—and he loved to travel. Above all, he was a partner, father, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle, and a friend—always there when you needed him.
Born August 8, 1944, in Camrose, Alberta, to George and Margie West—the oldest of four children. He is survived by his loving partner Marge; his children Crystal, Cheryl (Dave), and Scott; his granddaughter Juliana; his sister Diane (Gary) and brother Andy. He was predeceased by his brothers Dale and Don and his parents George and Margie.
A celebration of Ron's life will be held on April 18, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Brechin United Church in Nanaimo, 2020 Estevan Rd.
His final resting place will be at the Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
