Carol was born on May 7, 1943, to Kathryn Grimes Rosa and Joseph Anton Rosa in Canton, Ohio.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. While in college, she met the love of her life, Reginald Theodore Mitchell. They married in 1964 and shared 23 wonderful years together. During that time, Carol devoted her love and attention to her home and family while raising their two children, Allison and Chris.
Carol later built a meaningful and influential career as an English teacher at Naples High School, where she taught for over 30 years. She also taught yearbook, media, and journalism, inspiring countless students with her passion for literature, writing, and learning.
Beyond her work in the classroom, Carol was an engaged and vibrant presence in the Naples community. She was a member of the local chapter of P.E.O., a nonprofit service organization dedicated to supporting educational opportunities for women, and she served as Secretary in her final year. She also proudly volunteered as a Docent at Historic Palm Cottage, enjoyed attending the Elaine Newton Artis Naples Lecture Series, belonged to several independent book clubs, and remained active with her Pelican Marsh fitness group.
Carol had a wide range of interests that reflected her warm and creative spirit. She loved cooking, baking with her grandchildren, interior decorating, and homekeeping. She valued staying active and healthy, and delighted in traveling, especially when it included exploring new places with family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend.
Carol is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reginald Theodore Mitchell, and her parents, Kathryn Grimes Rosa and Joseph Anton Rosa.
She is survived by her children, Allison Mitchell Deeson and Christopher Mitchell (Jen); her sister, Diane Kay Gillogy; and her grandchildren Riley Mitchell, Jake Mitchell, Mitchell Deeson, Mallory Deeson, Annie-Grace Mitchell, and Sophie Mitchell.
Carol treasured many friendships throughout her life. Her family is especially grateful for the devoted friendship and loving care provided by her cherished caregiver, Rachel Kirk, whose presence, patience and kindness always brought joy to Carol’s day.
The family also extends sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the staff and administrators at Aston Gardens, to Tina Ladue, Director of Memory Care, to Donna Tapper, R.N. and the compassionate team at Avow Hospice Services. Their care, kindness and support provided tremendous comfort to Carol and her family during her residency at Aston Gardens.
In lieu of a service, Carol’s wish was to have a private celebration of life with her immediate family.
