Cathy married her loving husband Joseph on his birthday over 60 years ago. She had an independent spirit, was strong and fearless. She taught herself to speak English before leaving her home and family in Argentina to immigrate to the US with Joe and her young son, Bert. They settled first in Chicago before moving to Arlington Heights, IL where she opened a small group of Hallmark Gift Shops in the Northwest Suburbs. After raising their children, she and Joe left the cold for another adventure in the Caribbean, where they operated businesses in both Puerto Rico and St.Croix. They made Naples their new home 20 years ago after surviving the devastation of Hurricane Hugo.
Some of Cathy's favorite times were spent traveling the globe with Joe, unpacking her suitcase only to start planning what to pack for their next adventure or port of call. Although she claimed cooking was a hobby she hated, she was an accomplished chef and loved to entertain almost as much as her guests enjoyed being treated. She was a fun and loving role model who left an incredible life story. She will always be an inspiration to both her children and grandchildren.
Cathy was predeceased by Joe and leaves behind her son Bert Polacek; daughter, Nora Barber and her husband Jack; son, Mike Polacek and his wife Ana; Her grandchildren Dylan, Sydney, Emily, Megan, Josef and India; Her brother and sister-in-law, with whom she shared many special times in her life, Steve and Mary Polacek,; nieces, Monica, Irene and Erika; and her many close friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:00 am at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Avenue North, Naples, FL 34108.
