Charles "Bill" William Janes

Bill was born Jun 19, 1940 in Bardstown, KY to the late E.C. Janes and Naomi Searcy Janes.

He graduated from Bardstown High School then received a degree of Bachelor of Science of Commerce from Bowling Green College of Commerce, now part of Western Kentucky University.

Bill retired with an honorable discharge from the Army National Guard in Kentucky. He also drew joy from the 35 plus years he worked for Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY during Kentucky Derby week. Needless to say, he met and befriended many sports press people over those years.

For 50 years Bill was "Santa" to many families in Bardstown and Louisville, KY plus Bonita Springs and Naples, FL.

Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cheryl Haywood Janes, a daughter Kimberly Janes Tagg (Jim), a son Charles William, Jr., four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert Janes and also his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Buddy and Leslie Haywood.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 17, 2023 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, FL. The burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dare to Care or another food bank of your choice.
